Fisher-Price Little People Zoo Talkers Animal Sounds Zoo (Toy Review)

This article is more than 12 years old and may not have been updated since our last site redesign. It may contain outdated information or could be missing images.

Fisher-Price is already a popular name here in The Rock Father™ house, so when the UPS man showed up here late one evening last week with a brown box bearing the F-P name, I’m pretty sure that the little one knew immediately that it was for her. Before she even knew what was inside, she was giving the box a hug, so that was a pretty good indicator. What was inside was the new Fisher-Price Little People Zoo Talkers Animal Sounds Zoo.

The little one loves Fisher-Price Little People. Not only has she received quite a few as gifts over the past two years, but we also inherited a bunch from a friend whose kids moved onto bigger things. Now, if you haven’t seen Little People in awhile, these aren’t the same little guys that people like myself (I’m 35) played with as kids. They’re a tad bigger, much more detailed, and by far – safer. They also have a far better selection of play environments, and Zoo Talkers is the next evolution. As the name indicates, they talk!

Inside the box there’s a decent about of pieces, all crafted of the high-quality plastics that you’d expect from a Fisher-Price toy. For the assembly, three AAA batteries and a Philips head screwdriver (to tighten three very small screws) were required from my personal tool kit. The total assembly time was about 15 minutes.

Having already visited both the Lincoln Park and Brookfield Zoo here in Illinois, the little one is quite in-tune to the individual environments for the animals, which are represented here with a jungle, a Savannah, and an arctic region . Included with the set were a Lion, a Polar Bear, and a Gorilla – along with a friendly zookeeper as well.

What’s impressive as well is that the additional animals are quite affordable, with single figures running $3-$4 (I’ve seen them at Toys R Us), and other sets available that include a book and an animal (I’ve seen those over at Target) for around $6.

Over a week into it’s playtime here at The Rock Father™ house, the little one LOVES it, and the Zoo has become a staple of daily play. While there’s a lot of stuff to do from moving parts and slides, to a “squeeker” on the top, and a talking ticket booth – my one element of criticism is that the animals themselves should have more sound. Each figure will announce it’s name with one press on the special red base, while it’s signature “noise” will emit upon a second press.

Overall, the Fisher-Price Little People Zoo Talkers Animal Sounds Zoo is a well-made, fun toy, that at under $40 makes for a great value and a great potential gift item this holiday season.
