Netflix #StreamTeamOne of this year’s most surprising new series’ for families comes from Netflix, with BEAT BUGS bridging generations by introducing new listeners to the music of THE BEATLES through the adventures of five best friends — Jay, Kumi, Crick, Buzz and Walter — who band together to discover life’s most important lessons in an overgrown suburban backyard, which to them is their entire universe. When the first 13-episode season began streaming earlier this month, it was an immediate hit right out of the gate here at Rock Father HQ, but for us it came with a challenge posited by the leaders of the Netflix #StreamTeam, a crew I’ve been a part of for the past three years: Cover “All You Need Is Love” and invite all of you to do the same. BEAT BUGS opens with a 30-second rendition of the 1967 single from the Lennon-McCartney songbook, and just as the original is said to have taken 33 takes to get right, The Rock Daughters™ and I (with Mommy behind the camera) couldn’t quite nail it in one shot…

With over 50 songs from The Beatles’ catalog making it’s way into the family-friendly storylines of BEAT BUGS, there’s a lot of opportunity to have some fun with it, and there’s a fantastic cross-section of other famous musicians lending their talents to the series while putting their own stamp on some very familiar songs…
