Having first discovered them myself while sifting through the import CD racks of several long-gone indie record shops throughout the midwest, these little gems were live performances from some of rocks biggest names along with many underground legends and true sonic innovators. Never afraid to break the mold while exposing listeners to new genres, Peel was a vocal supporter of the Grindcore movement, inviting several then-unknown now-legendary bands to perform in his studio from 1987-1990. Now, Earache Records has acquired the rights to release many of these performances in their entirety for the very first time.
Collected in GRINDCORE MADNESS AT THE BBC, this 3CD set is a monster – boasting a massive 118 tracks from Napalm Death, Carcass, Bolt Thrower, Extreme Noise Terror, Heresy, Godflesh, Unseen Terror, and Intense Degree. Clocking in at 3.6 hours of chaos, and priced reasonably at $17.98 GRIND MADNESS is a must-own for any fan of extreme music.
Nearly impossible to review on a track-by-track basis, this collection presents these bands in their purest form – live without polish, raw with an intensity that makes you feel as if you’re in the room witnessing the genesis of the Grindcore movement first-hand.
