KINDMilesMatter: Spending Time with Family, Logging Miles for Good…

Made to Matter: Handpicked by TargetTHE ROCK FATHER has partnered with Life of Dad and KIND Snacks for this promotion. Why? Because he likes to work with people that rock, and they both do.

While our family has things pretty good, one thing we tend to lack on is outdoor adventure time as a complete unit of four. Scheduling is the main issue, between my wife’s career and my work (which has changed a bit to where I’m a work-at-home-dad about 80% of the time), the The Rock Daughters™’ school and now summer activities. There is always something going on, and while we have a pretty great life, there’s a lot of adventures that tend to take place as a unit of three – with my wife and I flip-flopping the “parent at the helm” duties. The biggest challenge of every adventure is simply getting all four of us together at once and without something that “has to be done.” That’s why I was thrilled to partner with Life of Dad and KIND Snacks on their #KINDMilesMatter campaign – an effort to spend some family time logging some miles on foot, with the folks at KIND donating a box of snacks per mile for an organization of our choosing. Thing is, even here my schedule jammed me up. We were supposed to log miles between June 20 and July 6, and guess what? I was traveling for work for the entire first week of that (a rarity to be gone so long in one run), but it had to be done.

The irony here is that our schedules are actually becoming more manageable for the month of July, and if you’re reading this entry on the day of its posting – our whole family is traveling together, and will log some additional miles over the next couple of days. We spend a lot of time together, but those hikes and strolls are few and far between – and out of the four of us, I’m the only one that doesn’t own a bicycle (though I’m seriously considering an adult Big Wheel from High Roller USA or a pedal car from BERG USA), though the girls have a full fleet of people-powered rides! When my wife and daughters take off on pedal-powered wheels, it’s me that gets left in their dust. I need to change that.

KIND Snacks have long-been a part of our routine – a way to fuel our adventures with quality ingredients that you can actually see (and pronounce)! And the folks at KIND have partnered with Made to Matter – Handpicked by Target, a program in which Target has selected brands that have supported three distinct pillars (unique collaborative partnerships, innovation, social responsibility). The cool thing is, KIND is featured alongside other brands that we already know and use as well – companies like Babyganics, Ben & Jerry’s, Method, Seventh Generation and more.

On July 28, we took a family adventure to the zoo – and that was a hike and a journey in itself. You’d be surprised how many miles you can rack up while pushing a stroller through a 216 acre zoo, but it’s a lot! Even roaming the nearby savannah, there’s plenty of miles to be roamed… but the time has to be made. And when refueling is needed, the new STRONG & KIND bars are my personal favorites right now, packed with protein and unique flavors (like hickory and jalepeno) that I dig.

Join me and the Life of Dad Crew on July 14th, 2015 at 8pm ET for the #KINDMilesMatter Twitter Party. We’ll be dishing out prizes, and talking about making time for what matters most!
