One of 2016’s most off-the-wall movies arrives in theaters this Friday, and ELVIS & NIXON (get tickets via Fandango) is at the top of my “must-view” list. To coincide with the film’s release, Lakeshore Records will release the ELVIS & NIXON – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally on April 22nd and on CD (pre-order) May 20th.  The album features the film’s original score by Edward Shearmur (SHE’S FUNNY THAT WAY, SKY CAPTAIN AND THE WORLD OF TOMORROW), and classic tracks from artists including Sam & Dave, Blood, Sweat & Tears, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and Otis Redding. Having heard the soundtrack and score, I can tell you first-hand that it’s fantastic! Check out the details below…

About the Film: On a December morning in 1970, the King of Rock ’n Roll showed up on the lawn of the White House to request a meeting with the most powerful man in the world, President Nixon. “Elvis & Nixon” follows two men at the height of their powers, conscious they could not stay on top forever, both ripped with fear of the inevitable, sharing one famous private moment in the Oval office. When the King of Rock’ n Roll (Michael Shannon) showed up on the White House lawn to request a meeting with the most powerful man in the world, President Richard Nixon (Kevin Spacey). He had a very urgent request: to be sworn in as an undercover Federal Agent at large. This intimate moment in the Oval office between two men at the height of their powers has never been told.

“The goal was to set a light and sunny tone for the film, that spoke to a sense of time and place and that hinted at the caper aspects of the story,” said Shearmur. “We weren’t trying to recreate or mimic an Elvis Presley sound, but music of the seventies, and specifically Memphis was definitely an inspiration.”

About the Composer: Over the past two decades, Edward Shearmur has demonstrated his ability to transcend comedy, action, thriller, and dramatic projects alike. His gift for capturing the spirit of family material and comedy can be found in such films as  Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules, Jumping the Broom, Bride Wars, Blue Streak, College Road Trip  and  Miss Congeniality.  His thrilling, heart-racing action scores can be found in  The Count of Monte Cristo, Derailed, Charlie’s Angels, Charlie’s Angels 2, Johnny English, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow,  Cruel Intentions, Reign of Fire, K-Pax, The Skeleton Key and Abduction. His tender, dramatic side was showcased beautifully in the film  Mother and Child, and he won an Emmy® Award for his theme to the Showtime series  Masters of Horror. Shearmur’s most recent projects include Rowan Joffe’s mystery thriller Before I Go To Sleep, Peter Bogdanovich’s comedy She’s Funny That Way, the Blumhouse thriller Curve, BBC’s Reg, starring Tim Roth, and The Outcast from director Iain Softley.
