If you have yet to see MIRACULOUS: TALES OF LADYBUG & CAT NOIR, now is the time to to get on-board – especially for those with kids ages 4-12. The French animated series was a from-out-of-nowhere hit that we stumbled upon by accident some months ago here at Rock Father HQ, soon setting it to “series record” on the DVR, and later checking out some of the original episodes (in French) online. The Rock Daughters™ are not alone in their love of MIRACULOUS, with the show already becoming a Top 5 hit for girls on Nickelodeon here in the U.S. (it airs on other networks in a total of 79 countries thus far), and on the cusp over a major breakthrough… and it’s starting at Comic-Con International (SDCC) in San Diego this week.
The inspiring superhero CGI-animated series follows the “magically transforming” Ladybug and Cat Noir – a heroic duo that must face-off with and overcome a constant barrage of new villains and challenges, all while juggling their daily life as teenagers in Paris. While the target audience is kids ages 4-12, it’s the type of series that has the huge potential to win fans far beyond that age range – and it has. Within the next few weeks, there will be a music video, a comic book, new episodes on Nickelodeon, a second DVD from Shout! Factory, and a full range of toys from the folks at Bandai.
SDCC activities will be spread between four booths: Shout! Factory/Shout! Kids #4118, Bandai #3535, Nickeloden #4113 and Action Lab #1735. In addition to the special events detailed below, Actress/Pop Star LAURA MARANO (AUSTIN & ALLY, BAD HAIR DAY) will release a “Miraculous” music video at SDCC on July 23rd (more details to follow).
On Saturday, August 6, 2016 at 8am (ET/PT), “Origin Story: Part 1” will air on Nickelodeon, immediately followed by “Origin Story: Part 2” at 8:30. New episodes will continue to premiere on Saturday mornings at 8:30am 9ET/PT). Shout! Factory will release MIRACULOUS: SPOTS ON! on DVD on August 30, while the action figures and role play toys from Bandai will be hitting mass retail starting August 15.
Having taken an advance peek at the figures at the recent Sweet Suite 16 event at Blogger Bash in NYC, I can’t wait to get a set into the hands of the girls next month. As for the comic, if you can get to SDCC, the Trade Paperback debut is limited to just 500 Copies…
SDCC 2016 MIRACULOUS: TALES OF LADYBUG AND CAT NOIR TPB
Marinette is the sweetest girl in Paris. With a big crush on a boy at school, a big dream of becoming a fashion designer, and a big problem with being totally awkward, she’s just your average teenage girl, right? Did we mention she’s also the crime fighting superhero, Ladybug? Becoming Ladybug is a complicated process! First, Marinette needs a “Kwami,” which is a tiny magical assistant (hers is named Tikki). She also needs a “Miraculous,” which is a magical accessory (hers is a pair of earrings). Tikki uses the Miraculous to transform Marinette. But her Ladybug super powers only work for a limited time! When Hawk Moth uses his mind-controlling, moth-like creatures called akuma to turn people into baddies, it’s up to Ladybug to capture them and save the day! Well, she gets a little help from her superhero friend, Cat Noir… but she insists she doesn’t need him. If only she knew Cat Noir’s true identity – her crush, Adrien! Will Ladybug and Cat Noir be able to balance their double lives and keep Paris safe? Will they ever find out each other’s true identity, or who’s behind Hawk Moth’s mask?
