I’ve never been one to keep quiet the fact that I’m not a football fan (putting it politely). While I massively outgrew the game that consumes so many on a professional level each and every Sunday during this time of year, I have enjoyed a number of football-based movies over the years – films like WILDCATS (1986), NECESSARY ROUGHNESS (1991) and ANY GIVEN SUNDAY (1999). This year comes a new addition to my short list with 23 BLAST (Rated PG-13), an uplifting indie about tackling impossible challenges and finding hope where it seems there is none. In theaters this weekend, I caught an early look at the film and am highlighting it here on THE ROCK FATHER for your consideration…

The directorial debut from actor Dylan Baker (FIDO, SPIDER-MAN 2, TRICK R TREAT) who also stars and produces, the film was shot on-location in Corbin, Kentucky – following the true story of Travis Freeman, a teenager stricken with a bacterial infection that causes him to lose his sight overnight. After spending months in solitude, his friends, family and a mobility coach help him to re-enter the world, and eventually take to the football field despite being completely blind. Check out this feature from the cast and crew for more on what inspired the film…

23B ONESHEET F23 BLAST stars Stephen Lang (Avatar, Terra Nova), Alexa Vega (Spy Kids, Machete Kills), Mark Hapka (Day of Our Lives, Criminal Minds), Max Adler (Glee), Bram Hoover, Kim Zimmer (Guiding Light, One Life to Live), Becky Ann Baker (Men in Black, Freaks and Geeks, A Simple Plan) Timothy Busfield (Field of Dreamsthirtysomething), Dylan Baker, and Fred D. Thompson (Sinister, Law & Order, Die Hard 2). The film’s screenplay was written by the mother-son team of Toni & Bram Hoover (who also stars).
