As of this writing, Paramount Pictures’ big-screen BAYWATCH has just hit theaters for Memorial Day weekend, ushering in summer with a new spin on the syndicated TV favorite. With Dwayne Johnson stepping into David Hasselhoff’s iconic trunks as lifeguard Mitch Buchannon, a new generation is getting a taste of slow-mo beach running as Mitch and the crew (which includes Jon Bass as Ronnie, Alexandra Daddario as Summer, Zac Efron as Matt Brody, Kelly Rohrbach as CJ Parker, and Ilfenesh Hadera as Stephanie Holden) take down some baddies that threaten the bay. For the new BAYWATCH, the coast is flipped – with Los Angeles County out, and Florida’s Broward County in. While you might not think that an R-rated BAYWATCH screams “toys!,” the folks at Greenlight Collectibles are here with a 1:64-scale offering as part of their Greenlight Hollywood series.
The BAYWATCH Emerald Bay Beach Patrol lifeguard truck is a 2016 Ford F-150, presented as part of Greenlight Hollywood Series 16. I’m a big fan of what Greenlight has done with their pop culture licenses, and this one is no exception. The detail that they pack into what is essentially a $7-$8 toy is impressive…
It’s important to keep in mind that the Greenlight Collectibles diecast are geared toward older kids and collectors. Because of the additional detail, there’s smaller parts, a higher price, and they’re not really for rough play and bashing around. As you can see here, the graphics package on the BAYWATCH truck is outstanding, crisp, clear, and just looks great. The racks on the back of the truck house the safety lights, a surf board, and of course, a pair of those iconic red floatation devices.
These are at retail right now, and as always, they’re shipped assorted. Series 16 also includes vehicles from Elvis Presley, Hawaii Five-0, MacGuyver, The Andy Griffth Show and Blue Bloods. Personally, this is my favorite of the bunch.
