At some point in the past year, both of my girls – five-year-old Addie, in particular – started displaying a real interest in doing the things that Mommy and Daddy do. Then, around six months ago, Addie started requesting a tool box and a drill, constantly telling me, “I want to build things like you, Daddy,” triggering my fairly easy-to-melt heart, and after seeing it a few times, the purchase of a Home Depot toolbox that’s part of an exclusive line of products sold at Toys “R” Us. Fast-forward a few months, and as part of my gig as a Step2 Brand Ambassador, we received The Home Depot Handyman Workbench – one of a few new items for Fall 2014 that Step2 has created for TRU for that same exclusive line. It’s funny how things work out sometimes, and this new arrival to our State-of-the-Art Toy Testing Facility (our house) really hit the sweet spot. Check it out, in-action at Rock Father HQ…
Now, depending on your space availability, Step2 has a couple of options out this Fall, though we opted for The Handyman Workbench due to it’s space-saving footprint. For those looking for something bigger, The Home Depot Big Builders Pro Workshop was also just-released, but The Handyman Workbench offers BIG fun in a small space, a perfect palette for hours of imaginative play and the building of fine motor skills. In fact, we’ve had ours placed between rooms here, and all of Addie’s little friends can’t resist stopping to play for a few whenever they walk by it.
The Home Depot Handyman Workbench features:
- Peg board with hanging clips to neatly hang and arrange tools.
- Four removable bins for easy clean-up and storage.
- Real working play drill (requires batteries).
- Saw, Screwdriver, Hammer, Nuts and Bolts.
- Toy truck project kit made of realistic foam “wood”
- Working vice keeps projects stable
- Large work surface for all sorts of creative projects
Overall, The Home Depot Handyman Workbench is a nearly perfect toy that allows kids (girls and boys alike) to embrace their inner builder while emulating some “grownup” tasks.
