Hands-down one of my favorite vehicles to come from the Hot Wheels STAR WARS Character Cars Collection is the Boba Fett edition – a “rat rod” that legitimately looks like it could be a real car, the kind pieced together and driven to extremes by a ruthless bounty hunter. As one of the most popular characters from the STAR WARS franchise, it’s no secret that Fett went through numerous variations prior to becoming the stoic figure that we first saw in live-action in THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK (of course, he appeared in animated form in the STAR WARS HOLIDAY SPECIAL), including the increasingly-popular “Prototype Armor” version. Clad in all-white (perhaps too close to an Imperial Stormtrooper), there have been several action figures made based on the concept, but for the forthcoming STAR WARS CELEBRATION EUROPE, Mattel is unleashing a Prototype Armor version of their Hot Wheels Boba Fett – a vehicle that’s bound to become a sought-after addition to any Hot Wheels STAR WARS collection. From the Official Announcement reported by Jedi News UK:
Star Wars fans admire the infamous galactic bounty hunter Boba Fett, but true enthusiasts know of a 1978 video test in which the character was presented as a “super trooper” in a sleek, all-white outfit. The concept evolved into the colourful costume he wears in The Empire Strikes Back, but Star Wars collectors have always held Boba Fett’s prototype armour in high regard.
To commemorate the early conception of one of cinema’s most popular characters, Hot Wheels has created a new look for the Boba Fett Character Car. Complete with an all-white colour palette, twin turbo engines, a rear jet pack and several of the bounty hunter’s weapons extending from the hood, this exclusive Character Car is a must-have for Hot Wheels and Star Wars collectors alike.
“I am a huge fan of Star Wars, so to get the opportunity to recreate classic characters as part of my job is a huge honour,” said Bryan Benedict, Senior Hot Wheels Designer. “I am excited to be amongst the fans and to unveil our exclusive Boba Fett car that I designed as a rat rod, because to me Boba Fett is basically a walking rat rod – with his banged up helmet and cool attitude. But this is a rat rod with super-advanced technology, and, in the case of our Celebration exclusive, he’s been given a pristine white paint scheme to match the prototype armour.”
To get your hands on this Hot Wheels exclusive, visit the Hot Wheels stand (S502) where Bryan will be present Saturday morning for a special car signing. Also look out for the Hot Wheels panel at the Behind the Scenes Stage Saturday afternoon, where Bryan will provide a preview of the upcoming autumn/winter Hot Wheels Star Wars die cast line. Bryan will also explain the exciting design process of a Hot Wheels Character Car and poll the audience on what they would like next year’s Hot Wheels Star Wars Celebration exclusive car to be.
