I distinctly remember cruising across Illinois and Indiana on a road trip listening to the Spice Girls‘ debut album, Spice on CD. Of course, this was 1996, so the CD player was run through my car stereo using a tape deck adapter. What I can’t remember, specifically, is how the Spice Girls wound up in the mix between Sepultura’s Roots, Prong’s Rude Awakening, and Rage Against the Machine’s Evil Empire, but they did.

Now, the purveyors of “Girl Power” are celebrating the 25th anniversary of their debut single, “Wannabe” with a limited-edition EP, Wannabe25.

Available now via UMC/EMI, the longest-reigning No. 1 single from a girl group is back on CD, cassette, digital, and a 12-inch vinyl picture disc.

Wannabe25  Tracklisting:

  • A1. “Wannabe” (Original Radio Edit) (02:53)
  • A2. “Wannabe” (Junior Vasquez Remix Edit) (05:57)
  • B1. “Wannabe” (Demo: Previously Unreleased) (02:58)
  • B2. “Feed Your Love” (Previously Unreleased Song) (04:36)

Funny enough, my kids were just watching Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul and “Wannabe” was featured a couple of times.
