“A word I use over and over again is tenacity. I think it’s important to remember that it’s never going to be easy the first time out, so you just have to keep going at it again and again, especially if you firmly believe in what you do.” -- Kathleen Kennedy, President, Lucasfilm
It's incredible what a difference a few years can make. Upon the birth of our first daughter back in 2009, my wife and I were almost instantly inundated with information and opinions on the "Princess Complex" - what many felt was negative influence from the Disney Princesses and the like. The Walt Disney Company was completely aware, and in recent years there's been a real effort to reinvent the Disney Princess brand to be something meaningful and empowering, and since the 2016 launch of Dream Big, Princess, kids everywhere have been presented with new ideas on just what a "Princess" could be. Now, ahead of the United Nations International Day of the Girl (October 11), Disney has launched a new global video series offering advice and inspiration on achieving success for the next generation of young leaders around the globe. The #DreamBigPrincess video series, produced and directed by young women from the United Nations Foundation’s Girl Up initiative, shares the stories of 20 trailblazing women across technology, entertainment, medicine, law, sports, arts, science, fashion and politics to show the next generation what’s possible if you dream big.
With the premiere of Star Wars Resistance fast-approaching, the promotional efforts are growing, and that means some fresh new looks for fans. Today comes a brand-new extended sneak-preview from the team at Lucasfilm, and this one delivers our first look at some fan-favorite characters and some familiar locations. If that isn't Bossk and Salacious Crumb in there (and it probably isn't since I'm pretty sure they both perished on Jabba's Sail Barge), it's certainly great to see their species back in the mix as well. Star Wars Resistance debuts Sunday, October 7th on Disney Channel (10 p.m. ET/PT) along with DisneyNOW and VOD, allowing families to watch wherever and whenever they'd like.
Star Wars Resistance will make its debut on October 7th on Disney Channel (10 p.m. ET/PT) and DisneyNOW and this week the cast and creatives began making the media rounds, starting with a press conference in Burbank. While we can expect to start seeing interview features from that roll out shortly, the bigger news is that Lucasfilm has issued the official synopses for the first five episodes of the series. Check out all the details below...
It's actually been a little while since I've seen a Hasbro Star Wars collection commercial on television, but earlier today a new spot surfaced on YouTube in promotion of the Star Wars Bladebuilders Role Play Gear. Classic dress-up and old-school imaginative play continues to be big for Hasbro, and one of the latest offerings of note is The Empire Strikes Back Electronic Yoda Mask. Think along the lines of The Force Awakens Electronic Chewbacca Mask but avoiding when "Chewbacca Mom" swooped-in and made it creepy.
What Hasbro says about their new Yoda mask:
Imagine training the Jedi like the legendary Jedi master Yoda with this Yoda Electronic Mask, with chin-activated sound effects and phrases, so when kids open their mouths while wearing the mask, they can imagine teaching the next generation of Jedi how to use the Force! Move mouth to activate effects and to wiggle the Yoda mask’s ears! Inspired by Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, this authentically detailed mask fits most head sizes. You can get it now at HasbroToyShop.com (affiliate), Amazon and more.
I may have mentioned this in passing before, but this fall will see the release of an all-new wave of Holiday Funko Pop! Vinyl figures... and yes, more Star Wars is in the mix. Of course these are technically bobbleheads (thanks to licensing) but cool just the same. There's festive new versions of Chewbacca, R2-D2, C-3PO, Darth Vader (there's a Chase version as well) and Yoda. All of these new figures are up for pre-order via my friends at Entertainment Earth. I see them as new-school holiday decor, and early additions to my 2018 Holiday Wish Guide here at The Rock Father™ Magazine.
