I hadn’t really paid much attention to Mutt & Stuff until recently, when I’d left Nick on, and when I came back into the room, little Finley casually informed me that she was “just watching Mutt & Stuff.” Truth be told, I was always a little weirded-out by the Sid and Marty Krofft stuff back in the day – most of which was already in re-runs by the time I saw it in the early 80s. But, their characters are 100% cult-classic, and now some of the most beloved H.R. Pufnstuf characters are returning to kids TV for the first time in over 45 years, and it’s all happening in a special episode of Mutt & Stuff that’s quite simply titled, “H.R. Pufnstuf Visits Mutt & Stuff.” H.R. Pufnstuf, Cling and Clang, Freddy the Flute and the Rescue Racer will all be present when the new episode premieres, Monday, Feb. 15, at 10 a.m. (ET/PT) on Nickelodeon.
In the episode, Pufnstuf brings two magical gifts for Calvin, Stuff and the dogs, all the way from his home on Living Island. Stuff wants everything to be perfect for his Uncle Pufnstuf’s visit, and he goes overboard in an attempt to impress him.
Personally, my favorite memory of H.R. Pufnstuf was actually from the 90s… The Murmurs’ 1995 cover of the theme song, as it appeared on the excellent SATURDAY MORNING CARTOONS GREATEST HITS compilation:
