Damn, yo. I love thrash metal. It’s my favorite, right behind death and black metal, in the canon of what gets my blood pumping and heart racing. And GAME OVER has long been one of my current-day favorites.
Their new album, Face the End (out now via Scarlet Records), is a full-on hard charger—and I am absolutely here for it.
Kicking off with “Lust for Blood” and rolling into “Neck Breaking Dance,” you’re immediately thrown into a headbanging thrash-fest. And honestly—how is that a bad thing?
“Grip of Time” delivers serious ANTHRAX vibes, which made it an instant highlight for me. That momentum carries into “Lost in Disgrace,” which gives off a dark, stalker-like energy—something I always dig. Then there’s “Veil of Insanity,” a sonic kick in the yam bag. Brutal.
“Gateway to Infinity” brings a cool, unexpected arrangement that makes it another standout on a disc mostly packed with winners.
I say “mostly” because there’s an intro track and a mid-album interlude—and I friggin’ hate both. Always have.
But the band makes up for it by closing strong: “Weaving Fate” is a certified ass-kicker and ends the record on the highest of highs.
All told, Face the End is a very good — if not great — album from GAME OVER. If thrash is your game, you’ll be more than pleased.
