MYLES KENNEDY (ALTER BRIDGE) has a brand new solo album, The Art of Letting Go, out now on Napalm Records. This man is on my Mount Rushmore of vocalists, along with Ralf Scheepers (PRIMAL FEAR), Johnny Gioeli (HARDLINE. AXEL RUDI PELL), Rob Halford, and Bruce Dickinson (Do I even need to? Okay, IRON MAIDEN, just for the youngsters who might read this).
So, with that in mind, LET’S GO!! Right off the bat, “Miss You When You’re Gone” was and is my No. 1 favorite song. The chorus simply defies explanation and is highly infectious, so much so that it should come with penicillin!
In typical kick-your-doors-in fashion, the title track opens things up with brute force and a hard-hitting chorus, while “Behind the Veil” is more of an introspective and yearning piece. It still has some monster riffs and a bass line that’s as thick as molasses.
“Say What You Will” and “Mr. Downside” are both ass-kickers tailor-made for arenas, STAT! One thing Mr. Kennedy does with apparent ease is take a slow, emotional number and make sure you feel it in your chest. Such is the case with the song “Eternal Lullaby.” It’s just beautiful.
“Dead To Rights” is our co-pilot on Flight 2506, non-stop to rockin’ greatness, and is yet another winning number. The disc closes with “How The Story Ends” and slowly builds until your doors are blown off again.
There’s not much else I can say about The Art of Letting Go. Other than that, it’s a terrific record that will surely excite fans of Myles Kennedy’s work. Pick yours up now; I guarantee you’ll love it!
