The summer of 2014 is already stacking up nicely for new family music, and the latest album to be confirmed here at Rock Father HQ is GOOD EGG, the sixth Kindie release from JOANIE LEEDS AND THE NIGHTLIGHTS, due out June 24 via Limbostar. This time around, Joanie and the gang are joined by fellow rockers like Jacob Stein of THE POP UPS, and funkmaster MISTA COOKIE JAR (CJ is everywherelately), for a genre-bending album that goes from pop to a not-so-subtle BEASTIE BOYS homage, to Oi! Oi! Oi! punk rock fury (I kid you not).
“I’ve never been one to stay stuck in any one particular musical style because I know kids love ’em all — rock, pop, funk, soul, ska, go-go, gospel, country — and frankly, so do I! With Good Egg, I wanted to write an album of mostly story songs that would hold the interest of the older members of my fan base while still entertaining the younger kids. ‘Drummer Dan’ is about my husband, who’s the drummer in our band. ‘Hipster in the Making’ describes scenes from my neighborhood, Williamsburg, Brooklyn (the hipster capital of the universe). ‘Stories from the Road’ relates three of the many adventures that have happened to The Nightlights on our road trips. There’s a lot of truth to these tunes!”Joanie Leeds
Produced by DOG ON FLEAS’ Dean Jones, who produced Leeds’ last album, BANDWAGON (read my review here), GOOD EGG will serve-up fifteen tracks, and will soon be up for pre-order at Joanie’s official site, and all the usual outlets… but you can already pre-order the digital over at Amazon.
