The Basics: Dave Mustaine and company set the stage for Megadeth’s swan song with a crushing new track and video from their upcoming self-titled record.

The countdown to the end of an era has begun. Megadeth have dropped “Tipping Point,” the first taste of what will be their final studio album, slated for 2026 through Dave Mustaine’s Tradecraft imprint in partnership with Frontiers Label Group’s BLKIIBLK label.

The track wastes no time, opening with a blistering solo before Mustaine’s signature growl comes in. Paired with a video directed by Leonardo Liberti, the release is as heavy visually as it is sonically. The clip finds Mustaine imprisoned and tortured while the band thrashes behind bars, until the story flips and he walks free into a new dawn.

“We all have different ‘tipping points’ and they may vary from day to day,” says Mustaine. “I think we’re all being pushed to the edge right now, and it’s easy to lean into that feeling. But it’s important not to let things get you down.”

The current lineup — Mustaine, guitarist Teemu Mäntysaari, bassist James LoMenzo, and drummer Dirk Verbeuren — will deliver the self-titled album in 2026, with pre-orders already open.

Earlier this year, Mustaine told fans that the record would be Megadeth’s last, closing a run that spans more than 50 million albums sold worldwide, one GRAMMY win, and a dozen nominations. On top of the music, he’s also preparing a new memoir, with details still under wraps.

Fans can pre-order the new album via Amazon or the band’s official site.
