With crushing riffs and pit-ready anthems, the Lone Star thrashers prove they’re ready to take no prisoners.
I’ll admit it — I knew nothing about OVERT ENEMY before their new record Insurrection hit my inbox. But after a few spins, I found myself impressed. This one guarantees a Texas-sized beatdown, and the band delivers plenty of moments worth cranking loud.
Right out of the gate, “No One Left to Die” is vicious as hell, matched in intensity by “The Truth” and my personal favorite, “Bleed Like I Do.” “Go Hard or Go Home” hits like a brick wall, heavy and punishing, while “Fire in the Skies” is built to get fists pumping and heads banging.
Not everything landed for me — opener “Resinated” is solid but not earth-shattering, and “Psychotic Episode” felt more noisy than powerful. The same goes for the closer “Even Murder,” which didn’t move the needle much. But hey, they can’t all be home runs.
The title track, though? That’s a sonic kick in the teeth. When OVERT ENEMY lock in, they’re absolutely lethal.
Bottom line: Insurrection has enough firepower to prove this band means business. Give it a spin and see which tracks hit hardest for you.
