Political humor is a time-honored tradition that seems to have taken a little bit of a dip in recent years, particularly because the American public seems to have gone pretty soft. As skin gets thinner, I think it’s time for me to remind everyone yet again of a fact that I last pointed out back in June of 2017 when DC Comics unleashed a preview of MAD About Trump: A Brilliant Look at Our Brainless President: No matter what your political affiliation or lack thereof, it’s okay to make fun of our President. It’s also perfectly acceptable to question, challenge and take shots at your elected officials. Respect doesn’t come with an office or position – it has to be earned. Political humor is timeless, and if you’re the President of The United States of America, you are fair game. In my lifetime, I always think of Saturday Night Live and Chevy Chase as Gerald Ford as the benchmark – the earliest clips I can recall. I see people complaining on Twitter about Alec Baldwin as Trump, yet those same folks have no doubt laughed it up about other actors playing Obama, Bush, Clinton, Reagan, Nixon, Carter and all of their opponents. It doesn’t make any sense, because it is always acceptable to make fun of the President – always. While I haven’t traditionally written a lot about politics here on the site (something slowly changing as I begin using my platform for my own agenda – people, not party), as a registered Independent that cannot fully identify with any political party in this country (or any other), I say, “Joke ‘Em All!” Anyone remember the comic book, “Great Morons in History: Dan Quayle?” I had that one, and I’m sure it was a great white elephant gift upon its release back in 1992. On that same note, as part of Holiday Wish Guide™ 2018, I’m pointing my lens at the man currently in the White House, the 45th President of the United States: Donald J. Trump. No matter what your opinion of The Apprentice and Home Alone II: Lost In New York star, I’m sure we can all agree that these six gift ideas will no doubt provoke a reaction at any holiday gathering. While some may question their taste, they are pretty funny… tremendously funny, even.
Donald Trump’s Executive Orders Sticky Notes Booklet (Amazon)
You better hurry because Trump’s tariffs will likely make the price of paper go up, thus rendering this one less affordable. Curious how Donnie makes his decisions? Wonder no more, and be sure to do the same with this handy collection of sticky notes and tags.
Donald’s Playhouse Cat House (Fuzzu)
Normally I’d write my own description, but the folks at Fuzzu have this one covered:
Cats love boxes. We got this from an extremely credible source.
We did a really good job designing this playhouse, which by the way, is so tremendous that your cat’s head will spin.
Richly appointed in a natural cardboard hue, your cat will enjoy the spacious emptiness inside Donald’s head. We’ve included a full-sized replica of Donald’s brain that’s strategically dangling from the ceiling! Made with organic catnip for your cat’s intellectual stimulation.
When properly popped out, Donald’s perfectly-sized ears (and we mean really, really perfect) become peek-a-boo windows, allowing for a cross-breeze through his cardboard cranium.
Our amazing playhouse also features a penthouse (the top), with an unbelievably cushy “rug” of brilliant yellow plush that creates the best cat perch ever! And it holds up to 40 lbs! This is prime real estate, Baby! Nothing fake about this, folks.
Bonus: Fuzzu also makes cat and dog toys including Rootin’ Tootin’ Vladimir Putin, Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders and more. Collect ’em all!
The Original Trumpy Bear (Exceptional Products)
This thing is something of a novelty-product anomaly – it’s gone viral multiple times, much like some of the people in Donald’s closest quarters. Each time this ridiculous bear with its strangely-captivating parody-level commercial prompts the mainstream media to question “is Trumpy Bear real?” Oh yes, he’s real, and he makes a perfect companion for Harley-Davidson motorcycles (only the ones not made in Mexico or Thailand), mobility scooters, or for simply sitting in the front lawn while sipping a can of “whatever was on sale” from your aluminum lawn chair. The irony: The Original Trumpy Bear is Made in China.
Chia Donald Trump (NECA)
The Donald’s hair has been the subject of massive discussion and speculation for many years, but with this throwback to the kitschy holiday commercials of the 1980s, you can be sure that Trump’s hair is real… Chia. Yes, “the pottery that grows” has been serving-up their political busts for years, and Trump is a modern classic. Very classy.
Trump on a Stump (Amazon)
This one is a bit of a mystery in that Trump on a Stump was actually a 2016 sketch on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, but at some point it became a real product, popping up on Amazon within the past month. Customer reviews for this Elf on the Shelf replacement haven’t been kind about the quality, but in fairness, whoever is making these (the manufacturer seems to be hidden) states:
- Clearly Made in China – Do you think you’re getting an American-made product with this home Trump decor? Think again! Our Trump merchandise is made in China just like all the best Trump products on the market; because we care!
MAD About Trump (DC Comics)
Here’s what the “Usual Gang of Idiots” that wrote MAD About Trump have to say about the book: “An all-out comedic assault on the most idiotic idiot ever to reach the White House (George W. Bush and visitors included)! In these 128 pages, is a full-out assail to the chief, spoofing every aspect of Donald Trump’s career. Featuring a foreword by CNN correspondent Jake Tapper, this book offers MAD’s best reprinted material with the sharpest satiric shots at “The Donald,” comically chronicling his rise from obnoxious businessman to really obnoxious reality show host to uber obnoxious “Commander-in-Tweet.” It’s going to be very, very, very good. Very good.
