Album Review: HIDEOUS DIVINITY — ‘Unextinct’

Published:

Man, I’ve loved HIDEOUS DIVINITY for 10 years now! My friend Tito turned me onto them back in 2014 with Cobra Verde and that was it. I was sprung. This band delivers death metal the way it should be: Loud, and in your face!

So here we are and the boys have given us Unextinct (Century Media Records), a collection of eight brand-new tunes to sink your teeth into alongside a pair of interludes. “The Numinous One” leads the charge by delivering a full 7 minutes of brutality faster than you can say “Jack Rabbit Slim’s Dance Contest.”

This gives way to another epic, “Atto Quarto The Horror Paradox,” 8 minutes of getting your head kicked in, but when it’s done you’ll be saying, “Thank you, sir, may I have another?” Other greats include “Quasi-Sentient” and “More Than Many Never One,” my personal favorite on the record.

“Mysterium Tremendum” was my other runaway favorite due to its frenetic pace and great headbanging potential. So whaddaya say we close the album with another 8-minute epic, yeah? “Leben Ohne Feuer” finishes the record off in fine fashion.

Once again HIDEOUS DIVINITY has stepped up to the plate and hit a home run. Pick it up if you haven’t and you’ll see for yourself.
